2021 PREVIEW
It was a dream season for the Crestwood Comets as they won their second district title (first coming in 2014). They had a unbeaten regular season before bowing out in the state playoffs. Winning the league and district is a distinct possibility as the Comets have enough coming back to be in the mix to achieve both goals.
Noah Shultz was thrust into the quarterback role last season because of the injuries but will be the starter from Day 1 this season. Running back Kaleb Benjamin is back with Chase Pugh and Ethan Shudak backing him up. Cole Kakalecik is the new fullback with Ethan Shultz behind him. There will be two new starting wide receivers with Robert Knight, Brendan Dennis, Josh Hilpp, Bryce Vieney, Evan Fey, and Nolan Dunnum on the depth chart. Magnus Bibla is the new tight end with Zach Sheloski and Mike Antosh being considered for playing time.
The offensive line is a very strong unit with all five starters returning including left tackle Aidan Jardine, left guard John Jones, center Chris Smolenak, right guard Wyatt Urbanovich, and right tackle Josh Snyder.
On defense, Urbanovich returns at defensive end with Bibla, Sheloski and Synder being considered for playing time. The defensive tackles should be Jones and Jardine with backups Logan Haddix, Snyder and Smolenak also in the rotation inside. Both starting linebackers return in Kakalecik and Benjamin. Lincoln Bibla, Antosh, Shudak, and Ryan Covelans will provide depth. There is experience at safety with Shultz and Ethan Stoltz back. Knight will also see playing time along with Pugh. The cornerbacks will new starters with Nick Miscavage, Dennis, Vieney, and Fey all being considered for playing time.
Shudak was all-division last season and returns to do the place kicking and punting. Smolenak will be the long snapper.
