Every week, we will highlight some of the best linemen from the WVC and LFC presented by Brucelli Advertising. Here is Week 8:
MILES EDWARDS, Lackawanna Trail
Normally a tight end, Edwards was forced to change his number and his position as the Lions were short on the offensive line this week. Not only did he switch positions, he replaced all-star lineman R.J. Schirg. Edwards helped Trail defeat Dunmore and also kept playing his defensive end position where he had six tackles.
SAM FILIP, Wallenpaupack
At 370 pounds, Filip has proven to be the unmoveable force in the middle of the Buckhorns defense. Not only he is making plays up front but running down players from behind. This past Saturday against Abington Heights, Filip was all over the the field as he made 11 tackles to help Paupack break their losing streak.
JAKHAI SIMMONS, Valley View
The Valley View offensive line was lauded coming into the season and one reason was Simmons. The Cougars run game has been one of the best in the area. They ran for 308 yards last year with Simmons recording several pancake blocks. For the season, they have averaged 276 rushing yards per game and that’s with starters like Simmons sitting most second halfs with huge leads.
DADE SPLAIN, Williamsport
The Millionaire offense was humming along at the beginning of the season and then the injury bug hit the team. One of those players missed was all-star center Splain. He returned last week and was dominating as Williamsport scored 3 rushing and 3 passing touchdowns in a blowout win over Valley West. Splain excels in run blocking and pass protection plus calling out assignments on the line.
BRADEN ZAREMBA, Nanticoke
Zaremba was a key part of a line that helped the Trojans gain yardage on their first 59 attempts while rushing for 481 yards in a 46-14 victory over Holy Redeemer. He also had his first career carry which resulted in a touchdown. Zaremba has been a senior leader on a very young team and Nanticoke has run the ball with efficiency all season long.
