WEEK 8

Dunmore Bucks (3-3) at Lackawanna Trail (5-1)

Lions Pride Stadium (Grass), Friday 7pm – Media: NEPAFootball.com
LFC Crossover
Series:
Dunmore 9-1
Last Meeting: 2019 – Dunmore 49-35
Last Week: Mid Valley 14, Dunmore 7; Lackawanna Trail 42, Holy Cross 12
Players To Watch
Dunmore: DL Austin Brislin; Lackawanna Trail: LB Stephen Jervis
The Skinny: What could be a preview of the District 2 Class 2A Championship game, it’s a bigger game for the Bucks who are trying to secure a home playoff game at least in the first round with Carbondale right behind them. Trail got their Dunmore monkey off their back a couple seasons ago, but still have only beat the Bucks once.
Favorite: Lackawanna Trail by 6

Crestwood Comets (2-5) at Dallas Mountaineers (4-2)

Mountaineer Stadium (Turf), Friday 7pm – Media: WYNY stream
WVC 4A Division Game
Series:
Dallas 28-9
Last Meeting:
2020 – Crestwood 34-14
Last Week: Crestwood 33, Abington Heights 0; Dallas 28, Pittston Area 6
Players to Watch
Crestwood:
QB Jay Swank; Dallas: DB Joe Peters
The Skinny: Crestwood has climbed back into the playoff race but this is a statement game for the Comets who want to prove they are not the team that lost 5 of their first 6 games. The running game has gotten going for Crestwood. Meanwhile, Dallas needs every win to hold on to the No. 2 seed and possibly host a semifinal game.
Favorite: Dallas by 7

Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack (4-3) at Hazleton Area Cougars (4-3)

Harman-Geist Memorial Stadium (Turf), Friday, 7pm
WVC 5A/6A Division Game
Series:
Wilkes-Barre 2-0
Last Meeting:
2020 – Wilkes-Barre 28-21
Last Week: Wilkes-Barre 35, Tunkhannock 31; Hazleton Area 27, Scranton 7
Players to Watch
Wilkes-Barre:
QB Javant McClary; Hazleton: RB Ryan Matyas
The Skinny: The game could also be a preview of a District 2 Class 6A matchup and home field could be on the line for the semifinals. Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre have both been playing better football and this game should come down to the last possession.
Favorite: Hazleton Area by 2

Lakeland Chiefs  (6-1) at Mid Valley Spartans (6-1)

Spartans Stadium (Grass), Friday, 7pm
LFC Division III Game
Series:
Lakeland 24-2
Last Meeting:
2020 – Lakeland 47-0
Last Week: Lakeland 26, Western Wayne 21; Mid Valley 14, Dunmore 7
Players to Watch
Lakeland:
DE Lacota Dippre; Mid Valley: WR Kyle Marcinkevich
The Skinny: Mid Valley has something to prove and also can move up the playoff ladder with a win against the Chiefs. Lakeland has played in plenty of close games over the past month and it will only help them down the road.
Favorite: Lakeland by 7

Carbondale Area Chargers (3-4) at Riverside Vikings (2-5)

Taylor Veterans Memorial Stadium (Grass), Friday 7pm
LFC Division III Game
Series:
Riverside 10-4
Last Meeting: 2019 – Riverside 42-0
Last Week: Carbondale 52, Susquehanna 26; Old Forge 49, Riverside 0
Players To Watch
Carbondale: RB Vincent DePalma; Riverside: WR Reese Gaughan
The Skinny: After not playing last season, Carbondale has shown signs of being very competitive and if they can win out which is possible, they could host a playoff game. The Vikings have lost some close games, but are desperate for a win and to snap their five-game losing streak.
Favorite: Riverside by 3

Wyoming Valley West Spartans (3-4) at Williamsport Millionaires (3-4)

STA Stadium (Turf), Friday 7pm
WVC Class 5A/6A Division Game
Series:
Wyoming Valley West 26-19
Last Meeting:
2020 – Williamsport 48-13
Last Week: Berwick 21, Valley West 14; Delaware Valley 26, Williamsport 0
Players To Watch
Valley West: QB Luke Buss; Williamsport: WR D.J. Greene
The Skinny: The Millionaires made a change at quarterback but it still hasn’t given them a spark. The injuries have hurt them and they are trying to right the ship at the end of the season. Valley West continues to lean on their running game but it still hasn’t been enough to put them in the win column more than losses.
Favorite: Williamsport by 5

Montrose Meteors (0-6) at Susquehanna Sabers (1-6)

William Emminger Stadium (Grass), Saturday, 10am
LFC Division IV Game
Series:
Susquehanna 33-16-1
Last Meeting:
2020 – Susquehanna 51-0
Last Week: Nanticoke 50, Montrose 14; Carbondale 52, Susquehanna 26
Players To Watch
Montrose: RB Lance Rought;  Susquehanna: WR Spencer Beamer
The Skinny: The Battle for the Bluestone is ‘The Game’ in Susquehanna County. Unfortunately, the Sabers have dominated the series and the Bluestone. Montrose finally scored some points last week to get that out of the way.
Favorite: Susquehanna by 20

Nanticoke Trojans (2-5) at Holy Redeemer Royals (1-6)

McCarthy Stadium (Kings College) (Turf), Saturday 7pm
WVC 3A Division Game
Series:
Nanticoke 11-3
Last Meeting: 2020 – Nanticoke 40-6
Last Week: Nanticoke 50, Montrose 14; Hanover Area 46, Holy Redeemer 38
Players To Watch
Nanticoke: WR Jaylin Collins; Holy Redeemer: WR Zack Perta
The Skinny: This game gets three footballs because we expect a ton of offense from two teams that don’t play much defense. Redeemer has shown us they can come back from big deficits and Nanticoke will pound the rock. Don’t be surprised if the Trojans put up 400 yards on the ground.
Favorite: Nanticoke by 7

Wallenpaupack Buckhorns (2-5) at Abington Heights Comets (1-6)

Comets Stadium (Grass), Saturday 1pm – Media: NEPAFootball.com

Players To Watch
Wallenpaupack: DL Sam Filip; Abington Heights: QB P.T. Cutrufella
The Skinny: Both these teams started the season strong, but Abington is on a six-game losing streak while Paupack is on a five-game losing streak. Someone will break the streak at the Pit on Saturday.
Favorite: Wallenpaupack by 12

Holy Cross Crusaders (3-4) at Old Forge Blue Devils (6-0)

Old Forge Veterans Memorial Stadium (Grass), Friday, 7pm – Media: NEPAFootball.com

Last Week: Lackawanna Trail 42, Holy Cross 12 ; Old Forge 49, Riverside 0
Players To Watch
Holy Cross: WR Sean Herbert; Old Forge: RB Josh Spindler
The Skinny: The Blue Devils have outscored the Crusaders 170-14 the last three meetings and even though this one will probably be lopsided again, Holy Cross is the most competitive they have been in recent years. This game will also be the District 2 Class 1A title game in Week 11 unless the Crusaders opt out.
Favorite: Old Forge by 38

Scranton Knights (3-4) at Delaware Valley Warriors (4-3)

Warriors Stadium (Turf), Friday 7pm – Media: Stream on WYNY

Series:
Delaware Valley 18-9

Last Week: Hazleton Area 27, Scranton 7; Delaware Valley 26, Williamsport 0
Players To Watch
Scranton:
TE Dustin Miller; Delaware Valley: DL Ryan Battaglia
The Skinny: The Warriors defense shutout a pretty good Williamsport offense and now gets a Scranton team who has struggled to score at times this season. Expect DV to run the football a lot.
Favorite: Delaware Valley by 17

Pittston Area Patriots (2-5) at Berwick Bulldogs (4-3)

Crispin Field (Turf), Friday 7pm – Media: Stream in WHLM

Last Week: Dallas 28, Pittston 6; Berwick 21, Valley West 14
Players To Watch
Pittston: TE Adam Shovlin; Berwick: RB Ryan Bankes
The Skinny: Pittston has been a thorn in people’s sides this season but has only two wins to show for it. Expect the Patriots to keep this close. The Dawgs are finding ways to win and if it continues, Crispin Field could host a playoff game.
Favorite: Berwick by 13

North Pocono Trojans (6-1) at Lake-Lehman Black Knights (3-3)

Eddie Edwards Stadium (Turf), Friday 7pm – Media: NEPAFootball.com
Conference Crossover
Series: Tie 1-1
Last Meeting: 2001 – Lake-Lehman 21-7
Last Week: North Pocono 48, West Scranton 0; Wyoming Area 42, Lake-Lehman 7
Players To Watch
North Pocono: WR Dan Smith; Lake-Lehman: QB Landon Schuckers
The Skinny: The Trojans head down to the WVC for a crossover game and have been stingy on defense allowing only 13 points over the last four games. Lehman is hoping to see the offense they saw during a two-game winning streak several weeks ago.
Favorite: North Pocono by 21

Valley View Cougars (7-0) at Honesdale Hornets (2-5)

Hornets Stadium (Grass), Friday 7pm – Media: NEPAFootball.com

Last Week: Valley View 46, Wallenpaupack 24; Scranton Prep 50, Honesdale 13
Players To Watch
Valley View: FB Dante Randle; Honesdale: QB Aiden Collins
The Skinny: The Cougars passed their first test without QB Adam Howanitz with 500 yards of total offense. Honesdale’s offense has disappeared in recent weeks as they are now in the midst of a three-game losing streak.
Favorite: Valley View by 35

Western Wayne Wildcats (3-4) at West Scranton Invaders (0-7)

Scranton Memorial Stadium (Turf), Friday 7pm
LFC Division II Game
Series: Tie 3-3

Last Week: Lakeland 26, Western Wayne 21; North Pocono 48, West Scranton 0
Players To Watch
Western Wayne: RB Nick Tomasetti; West Scranton: WR Amir Robinson
The Skinny: Western Wayne’s injuries continue to mount as star linebacker/running back Luke Janiszewski could be down for a couple weeks. Shouldn’t matter this week as West Scranton just tries to get younger players better.
Favorite: Western Wayne by 40

Scranton Prep Cavaliers (6-0) at Tunkhannock Tigers (2-5)

Tunkhannock Memorial Stadium (Grass), Friday 7pm
Conference Crossover
Series: Scranton Prep 9-4

Favorite: Scranton Prep by 34
