After 3 weeks, we are seeing some dominance by four teams in the Big School division while the Small School stays the same. We will also be looking at HIDDEN HEROES this week – players who don’t get all the headlines but have been important to their teams through 3 weeks.

  1. Valley View (3-0) – The Cougars defense was dominant the past two weeks, but they definitely will have to clean up some things when they play the Small School No. 1 Scranton Prep, especially in the secondary. Meanwhile, the offensive line has been very good and that’s not surprising. HIDDEN HERO: OL Connor Judge – Last Week: 1  Next Game: vs Scranton Prep (3-0)
  2. Berwick (3-0) – The Dawgs started a gauntlet of a schedule with a pasting of Williamsport. They held Minnesota recruit Treyson Potts to 30 rushing yards. Berwick’s offense looks better every week and Alex Force gives them a dual-threat QB. HIDDEN HERO: LB Ryan Laubach –  Last Week: 2, Next Game: at Wyoming Valley West (3-0)
  3. Dallas (3-0) – The Mounts ran all over Hazleton Area this past Friday and have moved into the conversation for being a contender for 4A. The offensive line has been very good and RB Lenny Kelley is taking advantage of it. HIDDEN HERO: DL Matt Ferrara – Last Week: 4, Next Game: at Pittston Area (2-1)
  4. Wyoming Valley West (3-0) – The big test is coming for the Spartans as they took care of business against Crestwood last Friday. How will they fare against the best team in the WVC? It won’t be easy, but they do get Berwick at home. There is no doubt Valley West has improved significantly from last season.  HIDDEN HERO: Nah-Syr Garner – Last Week: 5, Next Game: vs Berwick (3-0)
  5. West Scranton (1-2) – Why would West move up after a loss last week?  Because we are using the eye test for the Invaders. The defense is very good and the offense can be explosive. Even though they have lost back-to-back games, we think the Invaders from Week 1 are what we will see against most opponents. HIDDEN HERO: Quincy Vassell – Last Week: 6, Next Game: at Lakeland (3-0).
  6. North Pocono (2-1) – The Trojans have gotten their act together after the lopsided loss in the opener to West. Donny Balines is starting to look like a four-year starter putting up some impressive numbers. North Pocono will battle each week with any opponent. HIDDEN HERO: LB Tyler Motichka –  Last Week: NR, Next Game: at Abington Heights (0-3)

DROPPED OUT: Delaware Valley

  1. Scranton Prep (3-0) – Another shutout for the Cavaliers defense and its looking like there has been no dropoff from the past couple season despite heavy graduation losses. This is a credit to Coach Terry Gallagher and his staff. Big showdown coming Friday with rival Valley View, the beginning of a stretch of three straight games against 4A  schools. HIDDEN HERO: WR Michael Greco –  Last Week: 1, Next Game: at Valley View (3-0)
  2. Wyoming Area (3-0) -The Warriors were passed the torch as they beat in the WVC Small School as they smashed the defending champion Northwest. Wyoming Area has many different weapons and seems to be very balanced on offense. HIDDEN HERO: LB F.J. Braccini –  Last Week: 2, Next Game: vs Nanticoke (2-1)
  3. Dunmore (2-1) – Dunmore has started to look like, well Dunmore. Dominating teams they should while getting better each week. QB Steve Borgia is starting to look comfortable under center. This will be a big test this Friday as they hit the road for the first time this season. HIDDEN HERO: WR Greg McDade – Last Week: 3. Next Game: at Lackawanna Trail (3-0)
  4. Lakeland (3-0) – The Chiefs are looking strong up front and the trio of C.J. Dippre, Giovanni Spataro and Thomas Pidgeon are very good.  They will have some challenges with their schedule as they play some bigger schools, but they have handled it well so far. HIDDEN HERO: LB Garrett Korner-Usher –  Last Week: 4, Next Game: vs West Scranton (1-2)
  5. Western Wayne (2-1) – It was a huge win over Wayne County rival Honesdale. The defense really was strong against the big front of the Hornets and limited the running game. A quality win over a 4A school for the ‘Cats. HIDDEN HERO:  OL Evan Coons – Last Week: 5, Next Game: vs. G.A.R. (1-2)
  6. Lackawanna Trail (3-0) – Trail has run over their opponent the first three weeks and have gotten very good play up front. How they fare this week will determine if they are favorite in 1A or are still chasing preseason favorite Old Forge. HIDDEN HERO: DL Zac Cost – Last Week: 6, Next Game: at Dunmore (2-1)
